NDIS is the National Disability Insurance Scheme - a new way of providing community linking and individualised support for people with permanent and significant disability, their families and carers.
NDIS in the ACT
From 1 July 2014, the NDIS trial will begin for people with disability living in the ACT. People will gradually transition across over a two year period. Around 5,075 people with disability in the ACT will be covered by the scheme when it is rolled out to all participants.
Between now and July 2014 in the ACT there will be a focus on improving the capacity of people with disability and their families to exercise choice and control, and improving the capability of service providers to deliver services under the Scheme in preparation for the rollout from July 2014.
There will be a gradual intake to ensure that NDIS participants are properly supported and receive the right services for their individual needs.
